Indian Hill after 1st CHL golf title in four years

INDIAN HILL – The Indian Hill High School boys golf team has had seven consecutive winning seasons, but hasn’t won the Cincinnati Hills League since 2011.

Last year’s squad was 5-1 in the league under Topher Sheldon, equal to Madeira, but the Mustangs won the regular season title and Wyoming took the CHL tournament. The Braves return six of their seven starters from last season in seniors Matt Neumann and Peyton Marrs, juniors Ben Friedberg and Ben Singer and sophomores Alex Major and Garrett Innis.

Neumann was first team CHL, with Friedberg and Major making second team. Innis, Marrs and Singer were all honorable mention.

“The Braves return six of the top seven scorers from a team that was robbed of a CHL title in 2014 due to some controversial rules interpretations,” Sheldon said. “The 2015 Braves will be hungry to prove themselves and improve upon a team that finished seventh in the district.”

Sheldon will serve as an assistant this season with Matt Doenecke taking over as head coach.

Neumann is a three-year varsity letterman and was a 2014 co-captain, while sophomore Major had a scoring average around 41 with Neumann.

“Juniors Ben Friedberg and Ben Singer will need to step up this year to fill the void left by graduating senior Michael Thorsen,” Sheldon said. “After solid seasons, Peyton Marrs and Garrett Innis are expected to be much improved and are an integral part of (Indian Hill) playing in Columbus in October. This team has a chance to contend for a CHL, sectional and district championship.”
