Ben Bayless betters his own 5K record at Mason Invite

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, the Running Braves made their way to the Mason Invitational at the Corwin Nixon Park. The Mason 5K course, with two creeks to cross, hay barrels to hurdle, and a steep mulch hill to conqueror, is the toughest course the Braves will encounter all season.

The Ladies were the first to compete, and they were led by Emily Sheard’s 9th place finish in a time of 20:55 which was good for a personal record (PR) for the course and the season. Heidi NeCamp, Anne Whaley, Bethany Ison, and Olivia Sheldon also ran personal records for the course and the season. Renee Blachman, Kelsey Edwards, Louisa Klaserner, Amy Prugh, and Samantha Silver ran personal records over the course while Lynn Choi and Vi Robertson had personal records for the season. The Ladies had an awesome day to finish 4th in a field of 16 teams.

The decision was made to run the gentlemen in the Division I race to challenge the top runners, and they really stepped up. Ben Bayless crossed the finish line in a time of 16:08.1 to finish 6th in the outstanding field. Ben’s time broke his school record of 16:15, which he set two weeks ago at the Lakota Invitational. Bradley Corl, Spencer Mangialardo, Will Cassidy, and Sam Smith ran personal records over the course and the season. Joel Blachman, Nolan Heffernan, James Keefer, Tommy Tauer, Marc-Aurele Lallement and Jack Taylor ran personal records over the course while Alex Galbraith, Joe Murdock, Adam Defendiefer, Danny Forte, and Christian Kohl ran personal records for the season.

It was a PR Day! Great Job Braves! Keep working HARD!
