Braves Field Hockey Team Gaining Experience

With a young roster, the 2015 Indian Hill Lady Braves Field Hockey team has dedicated this season as one of growth and learning. They play each game with heart and determination, regardless of the final score. Coach Tara Rose knows that her student-athlete girls will get their share of “W’s” over time as the team and player experience grows. Only two seniors, Natalie Moore and Jane Petrie, returned to the roster of 18 for this season which is drawing to a close. Out of the young squad, Coach Rose has identified two sophomores, Paige Hassett and Olivia Campbell,.that have distinguished themselves and emerged as field and team leaders.

Coach Rose writes, “Paige is one fierce competitor as she steps up to battle our opponents and steal the ball with “the Hassett twist”. Olivia has become a bit of a “brick wall”, keeping her stick on the ground to stop opponents in their tracks long enough to advance in our favor time after time.” Many girls began the season being new to the sport of field hockey. “Our Indian Hill Braves may not always pull out a win, but they walk away wiser and faster. It is not every day that you can walk onto a field against seasoned varsity players with players that have never played a sport before and be able learn this fascinating game of skill and endurance. The girls learn from each other and I love being part of watching them come together and play so well.”

Regarding parents and fans gaining their own experience in the sport of field hockey, Coach Rose challenges, “It only takes watching one game, and before you know it, you will be cheering and yelling uncontrollably out of excitement. The game is fast-paced, so don’t look away or you could miss a fast break by Georgia Kennedy, Ally McMillan, Amber Welton, Robin Schumacher, Ava Bollinger, or Paige (Peg) McMullen, and that is only half the girls that can blaze the field in mere seconds. Then, of course, you don’t want to miss how Molly Hayes, Shannon McCormick and many others put up a wall to protect our goalies. The Indian Hill Braves are always learning, always growing, and once they find their ‘grrrrhhh’ deep down inside, I know I won’t want to be in their path. I am certain you won’t either!”

Last chance to catch the Lady Braves in Field Hockey action is Thursday, October 8th, at Ursuline Academy beginning at 6:00 p.m. News of tournament games will be posted when known.
