Braves score tough wins against Turpin & Sycamore

Gracey Hirsch and Hayley Hirsch are the top 2 players on the IHHS girls varsity tennis team that is ranked #2 in the State.
These two talented sisters consistently contribute victories over the top players throughout the Cincinnati area.

Last year, Gracey and Hayley were named 1st-team All Ohio and they have an achievable goal of finishing the year as the High School State Champions. More importantly, Gracey and Hayley are the clear leaders of our varsity team not only because they are our best players at IHHS, but also because they are looked upon as role models for out entire tennis program.

This week, the Braves registered two tough victories in spite of being short a couple of vital varsity players.  Our team defeated perennial powerhouse Sycamore 4-0 and then went on to chalk up a grueling win over Turpin 4-1.  Indian Hill was able to win despite losing Samantha Pregel to a sprained ankle last Monday. Pregel's injury depleted our starting lineup for Varsity with Saskia Gobonya still rehabbing a back injury. Hayley Hirsch won against both schools and made it look relatively easy in spite of this tough opposition. The clinching match against Turpin was delivered by freshman Jesse Budde. The 1st doubles team of Julia Yingling and Madeline Major improved their record to a perfect 4-0 on the season after winning both matches this week in the 3rd and final set. Nina Price and Jessica August are also undefeated as a doubles team. Price and August have been winning handily and not leaving any doubt at the conclusion of their matches.

It's been a great team effort as each player's match is worth one point regardless of their position in the lineup.
Our J.V. players also deliver consistently big wins when called on to finish off our varsity opponents as we wait out the injury situation. The Braves are hopeful of Samantha Pregel's return to the lineup sometime next week.

Next week's schedule for varsity includes the following home matches; Summit on Tuesday, 9/5, Madeira on Wednesday, 9/6 and St. Ursula on Friday, 9/9.

Please consider stopping by the tennis courts and offer some support next week for these 4:00pm home matches.

Hope everyone enjoys the 4 day weekend and our tennis team wishes good luck to all of the other sports teams.
