Boys Varsity Tennis Advances to Team State SW District Finals

Indian Hill boys varsity tennis defeated Seven Hills 4-1 in the Team State Southwest District Semi Finals. Freshman Anay Gautham won on 2 singles 6-2,6-3, Junior Maanas Pisati won on 3rd singles 7-5, 6-1, Seniors Milan Bhandari/Pablo Guzman won on 1st doubles 7-5, 6-2, and Senior Christiano Lima/Sophomore Mack Ellis won on 2nd doubles 6-0, 6-2. Junior Andrew Pregel lost in a hard fought third set supertiebreaker 11-9 to fellow top ranked Cincinnati player Nick Williams. Indian Hill’s overall record is 12-8 as it has played a challenging schedule including some of the best D1 teams in Cincinnati, Columbus, and Kentucky.

Indian Hill battled top D1 teams Sycamore and St. Xavier well which was strong preparation for Sectional play. Indian Hill lost 4-1 to Sycamore, with Pregel defeating Sycamore’s Noah Stern on 1st singles 6-4, 6-2, who won the Cincinnati Coaches Classic tournament in 1st singles. Indian Hill battled in close matches on both doubles courts with Lima/Guzman and Ellis/Pisati just coming up short.

Indian Hill then lost 3-2 to St. Xavier in a hard fought match. Winning were Lima and Pisati on 2nd and 3rd singles. Pregel lost in a hard fought 2.5+ hour match 7-5, 7-6 on 1st singles but came back from 0-5 in the 2nd set to tie it up at 6-6.

This tough competition should prepare IH well for post season play and the final qualification for Team State, where IH will play the winner of Cincinnati Country Day and Miami Valley in the finals. Sectional play starts today, May 12th and we expect most of the players to get to Districts.
