AquaBraves Win Back To Back CHL Championships!

The Cincinnati Hills League high schools congregated at the Powell Crosley YMCA Complex on Saturday, as Wyoming hosted the 2018 CHL Swimming Championships. 3 hours of intense competition were witnessed by a very vocal packed house within the Swim Bubble. Coaches Brandon Voorhies and Jack German had the Braves ready to go, and when a team is prepared and motivated, good things tend to happen.

The Dive Team had already dominated the night before, with Noah Vigran and Lexi Magenheim successfully defending their CHL Championships, while Annie Garretson took 3rd and Ethan Morris took 6th. On Saturday, more good things happened to Indian Hill High School in the pool.

The Indian Hill Boys Team made history in 2017 with their upset of 10 times defending champion Wyoming HS. On this day, the guys made it clear that 2017 was no upset, and after successfully defending their CHL Championship crown, the League recognizes that IHHS is in for a run of its own. Once again, the boys came into every race in swarms, and while Mariemont, Wyoming, and Madeira had some great winners at the top of the podium, the IHHS depth was overwhelming.

Here were the final team scores:

  1. Indian Hill 426
  2. Wyoming 257
  3. Mariemont 240
  4. Madeira 160
  5. Taylor 31
  6. Reading 15

This was the largest margin of victory in a CHL Championship in nearly a quarter century!

That said, it was not just sheer numbers of good swimmers for the Braves, as there were many great individual performances leading to multiple individual CHL Champions. Here are your 2018 individual CHL Champions and 1st Team All-CHL Swimmers:

  • Nick Bulas 100 Back 54.48
  • Devin Edwards 50 Free 23.06
  • Devin Edwards 100 Free 49.93
  • Will Taylor 500 Free 4:57.02

The 400 Free Relay Team also took home gold (Bulas, Taylor, Max Eihausen, Edwards).

The Lady Braves also had a great meet seizing the 3rd place Bronze Team Medal at the CHLs. The Mariemont Girls continued their streak as CHL Team Champions, and Wyoming took 2nd. There were many lifetime best performances and multiple individual medalists.

Brianna Yin is the 2018 100 Fly CHL Champion, turning in a great time of 1:02.25!

In summary, the Indian Hill High School Swim & Dive Team represented their community with class and excellence at the 2018 CHL Championships. Team camaraderie and sportsmanship were in abundance. The Braves' Boys Team has won back-to-back CHL Championships. The Dive Team swept the Gold. These are good times.

Next up are the Southwest Ohio Sectional Championships. The Dive Team will compete tomorrow Monday, Feb. 5, at Miami University at 6:00 pm. The Boys' Swim team will compete at the Mason Rec Center Natatorium this Friday night, Feb. 9, at 6:30 pm. The Girls' Sectional Meet is at Mason on Saturday, Feb 10.

Go Braves!
